Video Ideas..

In our music video, we will have many cut away shots that will cut away from the story and concert, to just show the band, perhaps in a small room. This will concentrate only on the band and not the gig atmosphere, meaning that we can use fish-eye shots and lots of low angled and high angled shots. We will use editing to fit to the songs rhythm, which will mean that it will be interesting.

A perfect example of what we will do, but just as cut scenes, is A Day To Remember's The Danger In Starting A Fire music video. Although this video is focusing on the band throughout, we will just use this similar style in just scenes that move from the plot.

GENRE

Our genre of music is Rock music, influenced by bands such as Brand New, Foo Fighters, King Blues, Incubus and many more artists of many sub genres of rock.

The genre of music video is a realistic "gig-like" experience, which follows audience members getting ready to go to the gig, perhaps making their way to the gig. This will include shots of posters, CDs, iPods with the song on it and much more. Our video will also have a band performance at a gig venue to make the performance perhaps realistic.

Music Videos: Brief History...

Popularity of music videos dates back to the 1980s, with the origin of MTV. Mainly, music videos were just performances, on shows such as Top Of The Pops, where the artist or band would just mime the song. However, since the original music videos, music has come far from this, now from combining stories and performances. This makes music videos not only be based on a band, but also like a mini film the viewer can watch. Music videos have had lots of success since they first were made. Although music videos originate from around 1964, music television made the most impact on the world from the music industry. Since the arrival of MTV, more and more music video channels have emerged, from endless amounts of MTV channels (MTV2, MTVBass, etc), Kerrang!, Q!, and many many more.

An example of a very successful music video is Thriller by Michael Jackson. This is a short movie around 15 minutes that made its way to the cinemas and had a 5 minute song performance too..

Our band's image..

When thinking about our band's image, we realized about a unique selling point that our type of band would have, which is that our band is a mixed gender band. This is unusual for bands as bands usually have just boys in or just girls, although this has changed in the past few years as mixed genre bands have emerged recently such as The Subways and Florence & The Machine.

The image of our band is a jeans and t-shirts, casual, but scruffy look. This can be associated with a gritty or grungy band image (e.g. Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Incubus).

About the recording of our song...

For our coursework, we chose to use a song called Jarhead from our own band, Undershot. We decided to record it ourselves in a studio, completely played by us and the band, and the song is produced and mixed by us. We used software such a Logic Pro 8 on an Apple Mac Pro in a recording studio at college, and recorded everything in the track from guitars to drums to bass etc.

Jarhead lyrics:

Don't be sick, don't be tired
If we're all lucky, maybe they'll get fired
I'd like to say before I lose the plot
That one day maybe we'll untie this not

You can't save me

Don't say those things
Yeah, I can't stand to hear these lies again
Don't say those things
I can't stand to hear these lies again

It's all going wrong but I know I don't need it

Your instincts only make things worse
Your grip on us is like a curse
I think the reason that they insist
Is that they keep nightly going on like this

You can't save me

Don't say those things
Yeah, I can't stand to hear these lies again
Don't say those things
I can't stand to hear these lies again

It's all going wrong but I know I don't need it

This city's going up in smoke, but who will be here left to blame
This city's going up in smoke, but who will be here left to blame

Don't say those things
Yeah, I can't stand to hear these lies again
Don't say those things
I can't stand to hear these lies again
Don't say those things
Yeah, I can't stand to hear these lies again
Don't say those things
I can't stand to hear these lies again

It's all going wrong but I know I don't need it

Here are the lyrics of our song. The song relates to the video we are going to make as the idea of our videos plot is about teenagers from age 16 and above just wanting to get away from problems and forget about it all, which is done at a band concert.
